WILINESS III

Atari ST - 1988/1992 - released to the public in 2004

1. Dahen

Dahen was the richest and the greatest of the human cities in the North Territories. It was initially built at the top of a majestic mountain called the bearded peak. Many years passed as Dahen grew and its inhabitants slowly moved to the valley and settled down near the shores of a lake which later became the great Lake. This marked the beginning of a flourishing period in Dahen history.
A group of magicians stayed and lived on the bearded peak. They built a Neutral Temple which after the years counted more than a hundred occupants.

2. The beheaded peak

The prosperous city and the Neutral Temple flourished for hundreds of years. But fifteen years ago, the lake turned black and fishes started to die. And then, one night, during a dreadful storm, a powerful lighting hit the bearded peak, splitting it in half and destroying the neutral Temple. None of the magicians survived. After this terrible night, the peak was renamed as the beheaded peak and nobody ever returned there.

3. Jackar

An ambitious and rich man arrived in Dahen a year later. Jackar, as was his name, spent a lot of money and time rebuilding the city. But most of the population was now gone, so he decided to create a tournament to give back to the city its old and great prosperity. He built an underground maze in the mountain and every year, a group of four courageous warriors was allowed to enter and try to find the way out. A huge reward would be given to the winners. However, the Northern Challenge, as it is now called, was created ten years ago and nobody has ever escaped its walls.
The great Guild of the Spheres is now suspicious about Jackar's challenge and decided, a year ago, to send a team of warriors to defeat the challenge. Their names were Rhor, Argon, Siltin and Camori.
They never succeeded.
It is now the tenth year. The Guild has decided to send another team, but this time they will be accompanied by a magical spirit which will report what it sees. You are this spirit and you will guide them through the maze of the Northern Challenge.

4. The Challenge

Your team just passed the heavy and black doors of the maze. The cheering crowd is now barely perceptible as you go deeper and deeper in the mountain. After a long walk, the air becomes thick and humid and it is extremely hard to breath. And suddenly there is a terrible smell and your team collapses, unconscious...
You slowly wake up in a dark room next to a closed wooden door. All your equipment and clothing have disappeared.

The challenge has begun.
